DERMAL FILLERS AND CHEMICAL PEELS IN LAGOS

I'm back with another instalment as part of the RBL Ageless Series! If you have no idea what the RBL Ageless Series is about, it's basically a series of posts where I will be exploring various beauty/cosmetic procedures that promise to take ages off your physical appearance.

I will be running the series in collaboration with Refinery Beauty Lounge (RBL), a fresh and modern unisex beauty lounge I'd shared earlier in the year in this Out and About post. The really exciting thing about this series is that all the procedures and treatments explored will be available at RBL.
For more information about the reason I have decided to explore such a topic, you can read the first post in the series here! The winner of the microblading giveaway has been chosen!

So, back to procedures that promise to rewind time, in this post I wanted to shed more light on Dermal Fillers and Chemical Peels.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers help restore the contours of the face by erasing wrinkles and replacing lost volume (e.g. lost fat ). There are temporary and permanent fillers.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most popular temporary fillers which are made of a sugar that occurs naturally in the body. Popular brands include Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane. These gel formulations come in thin and slightly thicker consistencies depending on the treatment indications. They can fill both shallow areas, such as fine lines above the lips, and deeper folds, like those around the nose and the so-called marionette lines (creases that run downward from the corners of the mouth).
Hyaluronic fillers can also plump up thinning lips, restore volume to cheeks, fill under-eye hollows, and add definition to a slackening jawline. The effects remain visible anywhere from four months to a year, depending on the area treated. Results vary from person to person.

The great thing about hyaluronic acid fillers is that if you don't like the result, it can be reversed.

Permanent fillers also exist, e.g. acrylic and silicone but with higher risk of negative side effects and allergies.

Chemical Peels

Skin BEFORE Chemical Peel

Skin AFTER Chemical Peel

A Chemical peel is a treatment that can target multiple skin issues. Essentially what a chemical peel does is remove layers of the skin and what this does is along with the layer removed, the acne scars, wrinkles, discoloration and sun damage that exist on that layer also get taken off. Because everyone's skin condition varies such peels come in light, medium & deep varieties. Apart from the degree level of the peel, there are also a variety of acids that a used to target specific skin concerns like dullness, acne prone skin and completion evenness. Peels such as Mandelic, Salicylic & Azelaic acids.
With all beauty/cosmetic procedures it is extremely important that you go to a qualified medical practitioner, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

The medical director licensed to carry-out these procedures at Refinery Beauty Lounge is Dr, Aire and he is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as well as with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and is also a member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM).

Dr. Aire has gained experience in cosmetic dermatology with a particular focus on skin of colour, since 2009. What most people may not be aware of is that not a lot of products used in cosmetic treatments/procedures work for people of colour, or may react differently in our climate. It is an added benefit when you go to a doctor that understands your skin, because they can better advice what product to use for a particular treatment and why.

Hope you enjoyed this post, make sure you keep an eye out for the next one!

Any questions/concerns about Dermal Fillers or Skin Peels, leave them in comments section a rep from RBL will be answering all questions in the series!
