Nail Paint By BARRYM

Hey Everyone,

In my first Manicure Mondays post, I received a couple questions asking where the BarryM store was located. There is a BarryM franchise in Lagos, I did mention this in my Lagos Makeup Fair Post here. (click on the link for store address and details)

My last trip to the store was in December and I picked up a few items, including their popular nail polish, or Nail Paint as BarryM likes to call them.

These are the colors I selected, as it was Christmas I was after some 'festive' options.

Nail Paint by BarryM '262 Bright Red'

I had been after a true Bright Red shade of nail polish and this one ticks all the boxes for me. Very pigmented and with subtle orange-undertones just enough to make it pop! This is the perfect red as far as I am concerned. It's like having MAC's 'Lady Danger' lipstick on your nails

Nail Paint by BarryM '273 Rasberry'
Price: N1,200

How GORGEOUS is this shade. It's a lovely wine/berry color,  just the right amount of pink and red mixed together.

Nice and dark, but not too dark. Just the perfect balance for a girly-girl like myself.

Nail Paint By BarryM '319 Foil'
Price: N1,600

I'm sure you recognize this from my Manicure Mondays - 001 post. This is a 'foil effect' nail polish (not to be confused with 'nail art foil'). BarryM also offer this finish in Gold.

I made two swatches of this just so you guys can see how opaque it is. One of the swatches I have applied just ONE coat and the other TWO coats. Let's play a little game shall we, which one's got two coats, the one on the left or right?... Please answer in the comment box below! :)

I will say that BarryM polishes are very opaque and the color in the bottle is what you get on your nails.  And for the price, it is well worth it!

Mini Haul - Konga

Hi Guys! Hope you are all well.

So a few weeks ago I  attended a little jazz night with my friend in Ikoyi, Lagos. I noticed her face was 'glowy', kind of when ones got a bit of highlighter on the cheeks, forehead and down the bridge of the nose. I asked her what highlighter it was and she said she didn't have any on. I said ok what blusher then, obviously assuming it must have been a blusher with some shimmer in it, once again she said she didn't have that on either. She then told me it was this new powder she got from SLEEK. I asked her for details and she said it was the Sleek 'Suede Effect' Powder.

I had seen them on the Konga website when I was having a browse so I made a mental note to purchase it. I asked her what shade she got and she said '02'. I have a couple Sleek face powders in my collection one of them's called the 'Luminous Pressed Powder', and this powder comes in a pack exactly identical to the Suede Effect one. I've got the Luminous powder in the shade '01' and since my friend is darker than I am and she had it in '02', I guessed the '01' would be perfect for me and it was!

I present to you the powder that really is something special. Sleek Makeup 'Suede Effect Pressed Powder'. And its got SPF in it, that can only be an amazing bonus. Cannot stress enough how important sun protection is. Please please please ensure you ALWAYS wear makeup that's got sun protection in it, or if you haven't got any foundation/powder with SPF. Look for a day-cream (face cream) thats got SPF. Sun damage is irreversible and its got so many adverse effects. And not just the face, your entire body needs to be protected too.

I tell you, this powder is very lightweight and applies smoothly on the skin. You will honestly feel like you haven't got anything on.

It only comes in 4 shades from 01 to 04. But do not be put off by this at all, as this powder is quite translucent and a shade can cater to a range of skin tones that fall within the same color base.

Like I mentioned earlier my friend is about the shade NW45 in MAC shade-terms and the shade 02 is a perfect match for her. I would say these powders are a bit translucent, but offer enough coverage. So the color range might be small, but it will suit almost all skin tones

I couldn't just purchase one item! what would the beauty-gods say?? Had to get something else.

Got this gorgeous Coral lipstick from Revlon.

I had a similar one from MAC. But I lost it (or someone stole it *side eye*) and I thought this might be a decent replacement.

I wore it over the weekend and I was impressed. Never tried any lipsticks from Revlon and this wasn't a bad first impression. Although the its not got as much staying power on the lips as, say MAC. But for a drugstore lipstick its not bad.

Its got good pigmentation and a creamy texture. The popular preference for bright colored lipstick is a matte finish, but I tend to prefer mine to have a slightly creamy texture. But not too creamy that it borders on 'slippery'. Just smooth enough to apply on the lips without 'dragging'. This is the MAIN reason I don't share the enormous love that everyone has for RubyWoo, honestly. Yes, its a universal red but its a VERY unforgiving lipstick, very drying and 'drags' like no other when being applied.. But this is a rant for another day

Only gripe with this product is that its got a very weird shape, especially the end of it. You know how most lipsticks have got the usual 'dip' on one side? Well this has got a 'dip' on both sides, it looks like the sharp end of a screwdriver (sorry, I'm really struggling to describe this). Both sides have got this 'dip' and due to this the top of the lipstick is a straight-line. I tried to capture this in a picture, but no joy.

This really does not affect the application, its just unusual thats all.

KONGA - Nigeria's Top Online Store

Hi Everyone!

I apologise for the lack of posts! Been having serious ISP issues. I could actually type up an entire ‘Woe Is Me’ post, and just moan about the difficulties of running a blog in this country. Honestly, it’s ridiculous! But I am back and I’ve got quite a backlog of posts to get out, so let’s get to it.

A few weeks ago I made my first ever online order in NIGERIA!... Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, I have ordered from ASOS, Net-a-Porter etc. from here but what I mean is ordering from a Nigerian Online store that allows you to pay for your items online and delivers to your doorstep!

Konga is an online store that delivers within Lagos (for now, I hope they expand soon). They sell a whole range of stuff from homeware and appliances, to office supplies, baby care and my favorite bit of the store BEAUTY&SKINCARE! Their service is unbelievable! You can pay online or on delivery, and get this, you can pay by cash OR card on delivery. I know most people, especially those who do not live in Nigeria will not understand why this is a big deal.... but trust me, it IS! 

I placed my order at 10.20am on a tuesday at the office, I was surprised there was an available delivery timeslot the same day, picked between 3-5pm and my package arrived at 3.30pm. I must say, excellent excellent service I cannot say this enough, I was gobsmacked. I went down to collect and pay for my delivery only to be told I could pay with my card if I wanted to, went for that option straight away.

I didn’t really get much, primarily because I got practically all I needed during my summer break, but the ‘addict’ in me just could not resist. And the items I got quite simply depict the fact that I just picked ‘anything’.

Ok, so this first item was a huge HUGE mistake. I honestly thought I was getting like a highlighter of some sort. But it seems I got a tanning lotion.

I was very disappointed with this, the words ‘Sun Kissed’ should’ve been a warning for me. But when I saw those words I do not know why I thought ‘Glow’, so I automatically assumed Highlighter. It’s the blonde in me honestly, because CLEARLY ‘Sun Kissed’ means just that, kissed by the sun,which means TANNED! 

Like I said, I was just looking for what to buy. So I really do not need to say much about this product, I don’t need a tan or anything of the sort… So this shall be going to the bottom of my ‘you-never-know-when-you-may-need-it-and-you-most-likely-never-will’ basket underneath my vanity table!

Now with this product I am not sure how I feel about it. But I dislike it more than I actually like it, mainly because of the smell. It’s got quite an unpleasant smell, it almost made me not want to apply it to my face at all. I bought it because I wanted some sort of powder to set my under-eye concealer. It's from a brand called 'Yardley London', never heard of it, got it in the shade ‘Medium Light 03’, but I don’t see the shade coming through at all. I’d describe it as a transclucent powder because I won’t say there’s any pigmentation to it. 

Positive side though, I did not react to it… that’s ALWAYS a good thing for me when it comes to make up. Haven’t used it since the first time, but I’m gonna keep it because I am a makeup hoarder! (the first step to recovery is confession, right?)

Ok, so this is the ONE product in my box that I was happy with. Saint Germain lipstick by MAC.

This is part of the Amplified finish family and as is synonymous with all lipsticks in this finish, it is very pigmented and opaque. I would describe this as a bright pale pink with a blueish-purple undertone. 

This is quite a difficult colour to wear as unlike bright red lipsticks which make your teeth appear whiter, this shade actual brings out the yellow in your teeth… who wants that??

So I’d advise to be careful with this lipstick, and apply with a very light hand. I typically wear this with some baby-pink shade lipgloss over the top, just to mute it out a little.

So there you go, sorry if this post was a bit of a downer, but I always want to share all my beauty-related finds with you guys. So make sure you check out KONGA. Like I said, I’ve essentially got all I need in the beauty department, so didn’t really need anything from the site. So please don’t let this post deter you, they have got an AMAZING selection of products on there. From Maybelline, to Bourjois even YSL Touche Eclat is on there. And their customer service is literally the BEST I have experienced in this country.
